Gyeonggi Province Selects 50 Universities for Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE)
Gyeonggi Province has selected 50 universities to lead the 'Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE)'.
On May 29, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had finalized a total of 50 universities?25 general universities and 25 vocational colleges?as the institutions to carry out the RISE initiative, following the third Gyeonggi RISE Committee meeting.
RISE is a policy by the Ministry of Education that delegates administrative and financial authority for university support to local governments, aiming to promote mutual growth between regions and universities.
The selected universities will be responsible for: cultivating leading talent for Gyeonggi's seven major future growth industries (G7); fostering Pangyo+20α startups; nurturing specialized professionals for region-based industries; operating integrated industry-academia education that connects high schools, universities, and industry; and establishing a growth engine hub for northern Gyeonggi.
Gyeonggi Province divided the selection categories into three types?future growth industry leadership, regional cluster development, and lifelong vocational education hubs?in order to strategically and efficiently utilize the capabilities and resources of universities and to expand participation opportunities for more institutions.
