Early Voting Turnout Reaches 15.72% by 4 p.m., Nearly 7 Million Cast Ballots
Jeonnam Early Voting Rate Nears 30%
Seoul Surpasses 15%
As of 4:00 p.m. on May 29, the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout stood at 15.72%. This marks the highest early voting turnout rate recorded at this time of day in the history of early voting.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 4:00 p.m. on this day, 6,978,426 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in the voting.
The nationwide average early voting turnout rate is 15.72%. Since the early voting system was first introduced for nationwide elections in the June 4, 2014 local elections, this is the highest rate at this time of day for any nationwide election, excluding by-elections and re-elections.
So far, the region with the highest turnout is Jeonnam (29.30%), followed by Jeonbuk (26.98%) and Gwangju (26.01%). The lowest turnout has been recorded in Daegu (10.74%).

Early voting will be held over two days, from May 29 to May 30. Voting hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring a valid ID and visit an early voting station.
