Posted and Displayed at Store Entrances and Surrounding Areas
The Chungnam Provincial Election Commission announced on May 28 that it had reported a party member, identified as Mr. A, to the Cheonan Seobuk Police Station on suspicion of conducting illegal election campaigning using election bulletins and other materials in connection with the 21st presidential election.
According to the Election Commission, from April 4 to May 26, Mr. A allegedly posted or displayed more than 40 printed materials, including election bulletins and photographs of a specific candidate, at the entrance or around the vicinity of a store he operates, in order to campaign for the election.
Article 93, Paragraph 1 of the Public Official Election Act stipulates that, from 120 days before the election day until the day of the election, no one may post, distribute, or display printed materials that indicate the name of a political party or a candidate, with the intention of influencing the election, except as provided by law.
An official from the Chungnam Election Commission stated, "We will thoroughly investigate and take strict action against any violations of election law to ensure that this presidential election is conducted fairly and within the boundaries of the law."
