Sejong Culture Center to Hold Dano Festival at Lake Park on May 31
Recruiting Participants for the Ssireum Competition
The Sejong Culture Center announced on May 20 that the 12th Sejong Dano Festival will be held on May 31 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Green Field in Sejong Lake Park.
This year's Dano Festival will feature programs such as a Ssireum (traditional Korean wrestling) competition and traditional performances, as well as family experiences, with around 1,000 Sejong citizens participating under the theme of the modern succession of traditional culture.
At the Experience Zone, 21 booths combining tradition and modernity will be operated, offering activities such as making changpo (sweet flag) soap, balsam flower dyeing, natural dyeing of handkerchiefs, tasting surichwi-tteok (mugwort rice cake) and omija tea, making Shrinkles keychains, and instant photo calligraphy.
The Performance Zone will feature a bubble show, Namsadang nori (including tightrope walking and lion mask dance), popera, and band performances, offering entertainment for all ages.
At the Ssireum Zone, wrestling matches will be held for both youth and adult men and women divisions.
Applications to participate in the Ssireum competition can be submitted in advance on the Sejong Culture Center website or on-site on the day of the event.
There will also be participatory traditional games such as Ttakjichigi and Bisachigi, food trucks, and a kite distribution event.
Kim Ryeosu, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "We hope this will become a traditional cultural festival created and enjoyed by citizens together," and added, "We will continue to enrich Sejong's cultural city brand."
