In January, Jaseng Medical Foundation and the three official organizations related to the May 18 Democratic Movement (the Bereaved Families Association, the Injured Persons Association, and the Meritorious Persons Association) signed an agreement to provide medical support for May 18 Democratic Patriots and their families. Under this agreement, Korean medicine medical support will be provided for up to 2 million won per person to 100 individuals recommended by these organizations.
To commemorate the launch of this medical support program, Gwangju Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine invited the presidents of the three central organizations related to the May 18 Democratic Movement to the hospital on this day and explained the medical procedures and the scope of treatment. Director Yeom Seungcheol said, "I am pleased that this can be a good opportunity to give back, even in a small way, to those who contributed to Korea's democratization movement."
Kim Seokki, head of the Gwangju Regional Veterans Office, also stated, "On the 45th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement, I find it meaningful that we can practice living remembrance for all, together with the local community in our daily lives." He added, "We will continue our efforts to remember the sacrifices of those who dedicated themselves to the democratization of Korea and to carry on their spirit."
