Acting President Lee Holds Economic Security Strategy Meeting: "Thorough Preparation for Consultations with the U.S."
Review of Response Strategies Regarding U.S. Tariff Measures
On May 12, Jooho Lee, Acting President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Education, held an Economic Security Strategy Meeting at the Government Complex Seoul to review future response strategies regarding U.S. tariff measures.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; the Minister of Foreign Affairs; the Chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination; the Acting Minister of Economy and Finance; the Trade Minister; the First Vice Minister of Science and ICT; and the Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The participants shared updates on Korea-U.S. technical consultations related to U.S. tariff measures and discussed future response strategies, including the upcoming ministerial-level consultations between Korea and the United States to be held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting scheduled for May 16.
Lee instructed, "Please thoroughly prepare for consultations with the United States by closely monitoring recent U.S.-U.K. trade agreements and the consultation trends of other countries in similar positions with the United States."

He further requested, "Relevant ministries should work closely together to maximize national interests and conduct consultations based on the principle of mutual benefit between Korea and the United States. Please also maintain ongoing communication with the National Assembly and the public throughout the consultation process."
