[Breaking] Democratic Party Convenes Emergency Assembly After Supreme Court Overturns Lee's Election Act Ruling
"Clearly a Political Trial and a Rushed Judgment"
The Democratic Party of Korea convened an emergency general assembly of its lawmakers on May 1, following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn and remand the appellate court’s guilty verdict in the case of presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung’s violation of the Public Official Election Act.
At the assembly, the party is expected to discuss the potential impact of the Supreme Court's decision on the election, as well as future response strategies.
Prior to the general assembly, officials from the party’s central election committee and leadership gathered in the party leader’s office to discuss countermeasures.
Cho Seungrae, chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party, criticized in a briefing that day, stating, “The Supreme Court’s ruling on candidate Lee Jaemyung is clearly a political trial and a rushed judgment.”
