The two organizations agreed to collaborate on educational programs, hands-on activities, design, and maintenance efforts utilizing the memorial facility, with the shared goal of fostering patriotism among students and residents and contributing to the development of the local community.
The centerpiece of this partnership is the General Whitcomb statue, which was erected to honor General Whitcomb for his contributions to the reconstruction of the Republic of Korea. These include providing military supplies to victims of the major fire at Busan Station during and after the Korean War, supporting the construction of Maryknoll Hospital, and helping to improve the educational environment at Pusan National University. The statue was designated as a national memorial facility by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs last year.
