Larvae Found at Jeong Water Purification Plant in Yeoju, Gyeonggi... 'Advisory to Avoid Drinking Tap Water'
Larvae were found at the water purification plant in Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do, leading to a recommendation to refrain from drinking tap water.
The Ministry of Environment announced on the 18th that this was confirmed during a nationwide inspection of water purification plant hygiene management. Yeoju-si issued a notice to residents on the evening of the 17th at 8 PM, advising them to avoid drinking tap water.
The Ministry of Environment has responded in cooperation with Yeoju-si, the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office, and the Hangang River Basin Water Resources Center to address the larvae incident. Currently, measures such as shortening the backwash cycle, strengthening chlorine injection, installing additional filters, and cleaning both the interior and exterior are underway.
However, tap water is currently being supplied without interruption. The Ministry of Environment is providing technical support and bottled water supply assistance to Yeoju-si, the water service provider, to resolve the issue.
The cause of the larvae occurrence will be thoroughly investigated by an epidemiological investigation team.
