Rep. Kim Daesik Declares Support for Hong Junpyo... "The Right Person for Conservative Unity"
Kim Daesik, a member of the People Power Party (representing Sasang District, Busan), announced on the 15th that he supports candidate Hong Joonpyo as the most suitable figure for the so-called grand conservative unification in the 21st presidential election.
On this day, Representative Kim declared his support for former Daegu Mayor Hong Joonpyo and resigned from his positions as the chief spokesperson for the party and the head of the freshman lawmakers’ group within the People Power Party.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly Communication Hall, Kim stated, "At this moment, the most important thing is not my personal political gain or loss, but the public's desire for someone who can defeat candidate Lee Jaemyung in the main election and bring back the administration," adding, "I am confident that the answer is candidate Hong Joonpyo."
He emphasized, "Candidate Hong Joonpyo has extensive political experience, a sense of justice that does not compromise with injustice, and above all, strong competitiveness to face off against candidate Lee Jaemyung and win. He is a politician whose actions speak louder than words, who knows how to deliver powerful messages at the right time, and the only People Power Party candidate who possesses genuine leadership that resonates with the public."
Kim, who served as chief secretary to former Mayor Hong, stepped down from his positions as chief spokesperson and head of the 44-member freshman lawmakers' group in accordance with party regulations that prohibit party officials from participating in primary campaign activities.
Kim said, "There are many lawmakers within the People Power Party who want to support candidate Hong Joonpyo. I took the first step, and others will follow. I understand that there are more than 30," he added.
However, he continued, "During the primaries, shouldn't we support each other behind the scenes? We must not leave painful wounds among ourselves before even reaching the main election," stressing, "I understand that more than 30 lawmakers have pledged to quietly help from behind. There are also about 60 to 80 local party chapter heads supporting us."
Kim emphasized the theory of grand conservative unification, saying, "If a candidate is selected from the People Power Party, that candidate must build a big tent and unite everyone to win. If not, I believe it will be a very difficult election."
