Gyeongnam Police Agency to Strictly Crack Down on Election Crimes Related to Presidential Election ... "Regardless of Party or Position"
Establishment of Election Crime Investigation Situation Room
and Activation of Dedicated Investigation Team
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency is closely monitoring and strictly cracking down on various election-related crimes ahead of the 21st presidential election scheduled for June 3, regardless of party affiliation or rank.
The Provincial Police Investigation Division launched a full-scale crackdown on the 9th by establishing an “Election Crime Investigation Situation Room” at the provincial police agency and 23 local police stations, totaling 24 police offices, and activating a “dedicated investigation team.”
This is to prevent social confusion and conflict and support a fair election, as the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol was upheld by the Constitutional Court on the 4th, resulting in the presidential election being held on short notice.

In addition, a dedicated investigation team of 209 officers will be mobilized throughout the province to gather intelligence on various illegal acts related to the election. The agency will also establish close cooperation with relevant organizations, such as local election commissions and prosecutors’ offices, to crack down on election crimes.
In particular, the agency plans to intensify crackdowns on the five major election crimes: bribery, dissemination of false information, public officials’ involvement in elections, election-related violence, and the illegal mobilization of organizations. The crackdown will target not only perpetrators, planners, and instigators, but also trace the sources of illegal funds.
Furthermore, the agency will focus on cracking down on the spread of false information via social networking services (SNS), illegal acts related to opinion polls, and illegal activities during party primaries.
Commissioner Kim Sunghee stated, “As this election is being held in a chaotic situation, the role and responsibility of the police as the central investigative agency for election crimes is significant. We will respond to election crimes swiftly and strictly, and manage them thoroughly with a stance of strict neutrality to ensure a fair election.”
He added, “In order to realize a fair election, not only the efforts of the police but also active reports and tips from the public are important. Please report any illegal acts, such as bribery, to 112 or your nearest police station.”
