Installation of 'Swimming Pool and Gymnasium' in Schools... "Also Accessible to Residents"
Seven School Complex Facility Projects Selected by the Ministry of Education
Swimming pools, libraries, and learning spaces to be shared with local residents
Additional support for areas with population decline or swimming pool installations
Seven additional 'school complex facilities' equipped with swimming pools, self-directed learning spaces, libraries, and more, which can be used together with local residents, will be established.
On the 10th, the Ministry of Education announced the final selection of projects for the first round of the school complex facility initiative, including Seoul Hwagok Elementary School, Daegu Gyodong Middle School, Gangwon Gangneung Jungang High School, Chungbuk Mugeuk Middle School, Chungbuk Sangjin Elementary School, and Chungbuk EduCare Hub.
The Ministry of Education plans to support 78.1 billion KRW (43.2%) out of the total project cost of 180.5 billion KRW for the selected projects. Projects in areas with declining populations or those installing swimming pools will receive up to 50% support.
In particular, Mugeuk Middle School in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, will improve the educational environment by installing a swimming pool, self-directed learning spaces, Neulbom classrooms, parking lots, and more, while also building living infrastructure for local residents. The Ministry expects this to contribute to preventing population outflow and promoting regional balanced development.
The school complex facility project involves constructing swimming pools, self-directed learning spaces, libraries, and other facilities that students and residents in areas lacking educational and cultural facilities can use together. Since its launch in 2023, a total of 87 projects have been selected so far. The Ministry of Education plans to install at least one school complex facility in every basic local government unit (229 locations).
