POSCO Completes 'Park1538 Gwangyang' Complex Cultural Space in Gwangyang
The Second Park1538 Following Pohang
Comprising a Promotional Hall, Art Museum, and Education Center
POSCO announced on the 3rd that it has opened the complex cultural space 'Park1538 Gwangyang' in Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do.
At the completion ceremony of 'Park1538 Gwangyang' held that day, internal personnel including POSCO Group Chairman Jang In-hwa, POSCO President Lee Hee-geun, POSCO E&C President Jung Hee-min, POSCO Labor Union Chairman Kim Seong-ho, and POSCO Labor-Management Council Representative Kim Cheol-geun, as well as local figures such as Assemblyman Kwon Hyang-yeop, Jeonnam Vice Governor Park Chang-hwan, and Gwangyang Mayor Jung In-hwa attended. In his commemorative speech, Chairman Jang said, "I hope this will become an open, high-quality cultural space that envisions the past, present, and future created together by the local community and POSCO."
'Park1538 Gwangyang' consists of a promotional hall and an education center. Within the promotional hall, a separate cultural space called 'POSCO Art Museum Gwangyang' was established. To commemorate the completion, POSCO is holding the exhibition 'Journey of Light,' displaying 33 artworks from the group’s collection to mark 33 years since POSCO's comprehensive completion.
Previously, in 2021, POSCO installed 'Park1538' in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, which includes both a promotional hall and a history museum. The name 'Park1538' combines 'park,' a space that embraces people, and '1538 degrees Celsius,' the melting point of iron, symbolizing the beautiful moment just before iron is transformed into something else and the passion of POSCO employees.
'Park1538 Gwangyang' is a sequel to that, established in Gwangyang following Pohang. POSCO plans to develop 'Park1538 Gwangyang' as a landmark of the Gwangyang region by linking it with the experiential sculpture 'Yeongwonui Bongsudae' (tentative name) currently under construction on Gubongsan Mountain. It will also continue cooperation with Gwangyang City by connecting with representative tourist sites such as Maehwa Village and the Camellia Forest of Okgyeongsa Temple Site.
