The organizing committee was established and reorganized last year, with Koo Jacheon, chairman of Shinsung Delta Tech, serving as the head of the committee, and preparations are underway for the first international choral festival this year.
According to the Gyeongnam International Organizing Committee, Gyeongnam Province will host the event, and the International Choral Festival Organizing Committee will be responsible for executing all programs.
The festival will kick off with the first invitational performance at Changwon Seongsan Art Hall on May 29, followed by a second invitational performance at the same venue the next day.
On the final day, an outdoor performance will be held at the fountain square in Sangnam-dong, Changwon, where both international and domestic teams will join together to present beautiful choral melodies to the local residents.
The overseas teams participating this year are Moody Chorale from the United States, Festival Statesmen Chorale from Australia, Chorale Artis from Singapore, and Young Chorale Academy Chorus from Malaysia, making a total of four teams.
From Korea, more than ten top-level teams such as Incheon City Choir, Gwacheon City Choir, Jeonju City Choir, Terroir Youth Choir, Gyeongnam Teachers’ Choir, and Changwon Masan Women’s Choir will showcase their talents.
Especially at the final performance at Sangnam Fountain Square, high-level amateur choirs such as Gyeongnam Trot Choir, Jinhae Central Art Mission Choir, Changwon Workers’ Choir, and Good News Choir will also participate, creating a festival that brings together many citizens.
Lee Sangchil, executive director of the International Choral Organizing Committee, said, "It is very meaningful that an international choral festival is being held for the first time in Gyeongnam," adding, "We are doing our utmost in preparation through close cooperation with Gyeongnam Province, the host, to ensure the festival lives up to its international name and becomes a venue for communication and unity among local residents."
Koo Jacheon, inaugural chairman of the Gyeongnam International Choral Organizing Committee and Shinsung Delta, said, "I hope this will lead to the expansion of the choral culture, which serves to increase the choral population and promote social integration and communication."
