On the 26th, Naju City announced that the Yeongsangang Basin Environmental Office held the "Manbongcheon Bicycle Path Opening Ceremony" following the completion of improvement works on the vulnerable section between Manbongcheon and Angam Rock along the Yeongsangang National Cycling Trail.
The newly opened bicycle path was created as part of the "Yeongsangang Manbongcheon Downstream and Two River Facility Improvement Project" to address safety issues such as aging and poor alignment of the shared road for cars and bicycles. The project, led by the Yeongsangang Basin Environmental Office, began in December 2021 and was completed in March 2025, with a total investment of 5.55 billion KRW.
The Manbongcheon Bicycle Path, which follows the Yeongsangang River and leads to Angam Rock on Gayasan Mountain, a scenic spot in Naju, is a riverside deck path exclusively for bicycles and pedestrians, measuring 3.2 meters wide and 1.2 kilometers long. The starting section is equipped with night lighting, rest areas, and photo zones to enhance user convenience and safety.
The event was attended by Naju Mayor Yoon Byungtae, the head of the Yeongsangang Basin Environmental Office, Naju City Council Chair Lee Jaenam, Yeongsangang Flood Control Center Director Choi Jaeung, members of cycling clubs, local residents, and about 100 participants in total. A safety inspection event was also held in conjunction with the opening ceremony.
With the opening of the Manbongcheon Bicycle Path, the effort to make the Yeongsangang Bicycle Trail through Naju a premium route continues. Naju City is promoting improvements to the Seungchonbo to Mongtan Bridge section, maintenance of the Jiseokcheon riverside bicycle path, and reinforcement of the Yeongsangang embankment. The Yeongsangang Basin Environmental Office plans to strengthen maintenance, including resurfacing, installation of safety facilities, and creation of rest areas along the 44-kilometer Yeongsangang Bicycle Trail.
In his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, Mayor Yoon Byungtae stated, "The opening of the Manbongcheon Bicycle Path today marks the beginning of another wonderful change toward a new Yeongsangang Renaissance and the era of 5 million tourists."
