There are currently 56 Educational Development Special Zones designated and operating nationwide. In these zones, the Office of Education and metropolitan or local governments cooperate to comprehensively support regional education innovation, nurture local talent, and promote settlement in the area.
In this evaluation, initiatives promoted by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education such as Morning Change, Busan Neulbom School, Character and Academic Camps/Weekend Schools, Busan-style Academic Change, and Star Light Library, as well as the restructuring of vocational high schools focusing on strategic and new industries in the Busan region, including Busan Aviation High School (opening in 2024) and Busan Naval Science and Technology High School (opening in 2025), received high marks.
Noh Jangseok, Director of Planning at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "This result recognizes our efforts to help Busan students grow into citizens of Busan through public education. We hope that the outstanding cases of the Busan Educational Development Special Zone pilot project will spread nationwide, and we will continue to do our best to realize better education in Busan."
