The event, co-hosted with the Gwangju Migrant Women’s Association and Gwangju Christian Hospital, began with a traditional Chinese fan dance performance and featured a variety of programs to promote harmony, such as commemorative ceremonies, social gatherings, and hands-on activities. The event offered opportunities to experience the cultures of various countries through traditional dances, songs, and an international costume fashion show.
International Women's Day was officially designated as a UN commemorative day in 1977 to promote women's social, economic, and political rights. In Korea, March 8 was officially designated as a legal commemorative day in 2018.
Not only Chosun University Hospital but also Gwangju Christian Hospital, Gwangju Heart Dental Clinic, the Korea Association Against Drug Abuse Gwangju Branch, and the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service participated in the event, operating booths and providing useful information, including medical services.
Director Kim Jin-ho stated, "I hope that all women can lead equal and free lives in celebration of International Women's Day," and added, "We will strive to ensure that all foreigners residing in Gwangju can receive better medical services."
