82 National Assembly Members Submit Second Petition to Constitutional Court: "Yoon's Impeachment Trial Should Be Dismissed"
"Rule of Law and Due Process Must Be Restored"
On the 12th, 82 members of the People Power Party, including Representative Na Kyung-won, submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court requesting the dismissal of the impeachment trial against President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the same day, Representative Na and others held a press conference at the National Assembly and announced the second public petition containing this content.
The ruling party lawmakers criticized the National Assembly's withdrawal of the charge of 'rebellion' in the impeachment motion against President Yoon, stating, "This means the impeachment motion has already lost its identity," and urged, "Do not allow the withdrawal of the rebellion charge and dismiss the presidential impeachment trial."
They added, "There is no sufficient and credible evidence to prove the act of rebellion," and said, "Even if martial law violates the Constitution or laws, considering the severity of the Democratic Party's parliamentary dictatorship, please decide to dismiss the case."
The petition also contained criticism of the Democratic Party's 'parliamentary dictatorship' situation. Representative Na stated, "Since the start of the 22nd National Assembly, the number of forced votes in standing committees and subcommittees has reached 113 within nine months," emphasizing that "if the Constitutional Court's ruling is wrong, it would mean condoning the destruction of consensual democracy."
Regarding concerns that the petition might be seen as pressure on the Constitutional Court, Representative Na responded, "It is not pressure but a sincere hope and plea," adding, "It is a common-sense request to strictly observe the procedures and principles of constitutional adjudication."

This is the second time that ruling party lawmakers have submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court regarding President Yoon's impeachment trial. On the 28th of last month, 76 People Power Party lawmakers, including Representative Na, also submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court, claiming procedural defects in the impeachment trial. Key party leaders, including Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong, did not sign either the first or the second petition.
