Gwangju City to Promote Private ESS Adoption... 10% Construction Cost Subsidy
Applications accepted until April 30; recipients to be selected in May
"Store electricity when there is a surplus"... Efficiency and cost reduction
The city of Gwangju announced on the 12th that it will implement a 'Pilot Project for Private Sector Distribution of Energy Storage Systems (ESS)' to promote efficient use of electricity and reduce the electricity bill burden on the private sector.
This project aims to encourage the adoption of ESS in the private sector and build a sustainable energy system to improve energy usage efficiency. The city will provide support for 10% of the total construction cost (up to a maximum of 50 million KRW) required to install a battery-type ESS of 400kWh or more.
An ESS is a key device that stores electricity during periods of low consumption and uses it during peak demand, thereby increasing power usage efficiency and contributing to the stabilization of the power grid. With the recent significant increase in renewable energy generation, ESS has become an essential element for stable power supply and demand.
The city will accept proposals until April 30. After receiving and evaluating the proposals, the city plans to select the recipients in May. Eligible applicants are owners of private power facilities located in Gwangju, and ESS suppliers must possess a certificate of direct production of energy storage systems and be registered as electrical construction businesses. Detailed information can be found in the notices and announcements section of the Gwangju city website, and inquiries can be made to the Energy Industry Division.
Choi Taejo, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Office, said, "We expect that this pilot project will greatly improve power usage efficiency in the private sector," and added, "We plan to expand the distribution project by monitoring the pilot project and reviewing the level of private sector participation."
