The core of the Culture-Leading Industrial Complex is to transform the industrial complex from a mere production space into a youth-friendly area infused with cultural sensibility.
To this end, various government supports will be promoted, including ▲development of the industrial complex brand ▲establishment of symbolic landmarks ▲industrial complex structure advancement (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) ▲regeneration projects (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) ▲operation of culture-specialized programs (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
This contest targets industrial complexes that are completed or currently operating, and applications closed on the 20th.
The evaluation committee plans to conduct on-site inspections in March, hold presentation evaluations at the end of March, and select the final three industrial complexes. If selected, cultural and industrial infrastructure worth a total project cost of 96.5 billion KRW will be established.
Since December last year, the city has been preparing a project plan to respond to the contest and applied by forming a consortium with Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters, and Gumi Urban Corporation.
The main projects include ▲cultural branding ▲landmark creation ▲industrial complex landscape improvement ▲renewal of old factories ▲operation of Culture Day ▲support for local content industries ▲creation of youth craft open studios ▲industrial complex regeneration projects.
In particular, the city plans to utilize idle land (129,000㎡) within the industrial complex to create an advanced semiconductor research complex, a youth culture center, and dormitories for young workers.
Through this, the strategy is to build a one-stop space where young people can work, stay, and enjoy, developing it into a new industrial and cultural landmark of Gumi City.
Additionally, a pedestrian axis connecting Sagok Station on the Daegyeong Line with 1 Gongdan-ro and the Nakdong Riverbank will be created, and a night-specialized street reflecting the lifestyle patterns of the youth will also be established.
The results of the Culture-Leading Industrial Complex selection will be announced in April.
The city is putting all its efforts into preparing for the on-site inspection and presentation evaluation, and expects that the Gumi-type industrial complex model will spread nationwide if selected.
