Gang Do-hyeong, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, to Uruguay... Special Envoy for Presidential Inauguration Ceremony Celebration
The government announced on the 25th that it will dispatch Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, as a congratulatory special envoy to the inauguration ceremony of Yamandu Orsi, the newly appointed President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, scheduled for the 1st of next month.
Uruguay is a representative democratic country in the Latin American region and a long-standing ally of Korea. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1964, the two countries have maintained a friendly cooperative relationship in various fields including politics, economy, defense, and defense industry.
As of last year, the trade volume between Korea and Uruguay reached 340 million dollars, and about 40 of our distant-water fishing vessels (20.2% of the total distant-water fishing vessels) are operating near the Atlantic Ocean, centered around the port of Montevideo, Uruguay.

Minister Kang plans to convey the government's message of congratulations to the new President of Uruguay through his attendance at the inauguration ceremony and express hopes for close cooperation to further strengthen bilateral relations. He will also have schedules including meetings with high-ranking Uruguayan officials and gatherings with compatriots and businesses.
