Trump Abruptly Dismisses Charles Brown as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff... Successor to Be Named Soon
Brown, the Second Black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in U.S. History
U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly dismissed General Charles Brown, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on the 21st (local time), according to American media outlets such as the AP and The New York Times.
On Friday evening, President Trump announced via social media that Air Force Lieutenant General Dan Radzin Keane would be nominated as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
He added, "I want to thank General Charles 'CQ' Brown for serving the country for over 40 years. He is a gentleman and an outstanding leader, and I wish him and his family a wonderful future."
Dismissed Chairman Brown was an Air Force General and former fighter pilot, and the second Black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in U.S. history. Commonly called "CQ" after the initials of his full name, Charles Quinton, he assumed the four-year term as Chairman on October 1 of last year.
Following his victory in last year's presidential election, Trump and his close aides had called for the immediate dismissal of senior military officials who they claimed were excessively focused on "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" (DEI) policies, naming Chairman Brown among them.

Chairman Brown was nominated as Air Force Chief of Staff during Trump's first term, but in 2020, after the death of Black man George Floyd due to excessive force by a white police officer sparked nationwide protests, Brown released a passionate video addressing racial discrimination he experienced in the military, which drew criticism from conservative circles.
