Daejeon City Councilor Lee Hyosung Proposes Ordinance for Reward Payment for Reporting Road Damage
“Will Contribute to Strengthening Road Safety Management
and Ensuring the Right to Safe Passage”
The 'Daejeon City Ordinance on Reward Payments for Reporting Causes of Road Damage and Destruction,' proposed by Lee Hyoseong, a member of the Daejeon City Council's Welfare and Environment Committee (People Power Party, Daedeok-gu 1), passed the review of the Industrial and Construction Committee on the 14th.
The ordinance aims to establish an efficient road management system through citizen participation by introducing a reward system for reporting road damage and the causes of such destruction.
As of 2024, Daejeon City receives approximately 14,000 reports of road damage annually. These reports are mainly concentrated during the summer, when heavy rain is frequent, and in the winter, when de-icing agents are commonly used.
The ordinance focuses on increasing the effectiveness of the system by clearly specifying the recipients of the rewards and including provisions for recovery in cases of fraudulent claims.
Lee Hyoseong stated, "With the implementation of this ordinance, road safety management will be further strengthened through voluntary citizen participation," adding, "It will also make a significant contribution to ensuring citizens' right to safe passage."
