Jangseong County Focuses Administrative Efforts on Health Management for Seniors and Chronic Disease Patients
Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province is focusing its administrative efforts on managing the health of residents, including seniors and those with chronic illnesses.
According to the county on the 13th, the Jangseong County Public Health Center is designating and operating "Health Guardians," composed of visiting nurses and medical staff from local health centers and clinics. The Health Guardians visit the homes of vulnerable residents or community centers for seniors to provide support such as blood sugar and blood pressure checks, health consultations, education on cold wave safety measures, and distribution of winter supplies packages.
Additionally, when cold wave or heavy snow weather alerts are issued, additional personnel are deployed to carry out "Health Well-being Checks" for 1,865 residents, including elderly people living alone and those with dementia or mental illnesses. Recently, during one of these well-being checks, a 90-year-old senior who had not eaten and was experiencing dizziness was found and arrangements were made for hospitalization and treatment.
An official from the county public health center stated, "Elderly and chronically ill residents are at higher risk of various diseases and safety accidents during the winter," and added, "We will take even greater care to ensure that residents can spend the winter in good health."
