Busan Gijang-gun Begins Full-Scale Pine Wilt Disease Control This Year
Spring Intensive Control Project from February to April
Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 6th that it will actively implement the "2025 Spring Pine Wilt Disease Control Project" from February to April to prevent the spread of pine wilt disease.
This project is being promoted as a comprehensive response to the nationwide surge in pine wilt disease. Following last year's investment of 4.9 billion KRW, the county plans to invest a total of 4.3 billion KRW in the first half of this year to carry out pine wilt disease prevention tree injection projects and the felling of damaged trees.
The "Pine Wilt Disease Prevention Tree Injection Project" will be conducted over an area of 287 hectares across three towns and townships (Gijang-eup, Cheolma-myeon, Ilgwang-eup). Five companies selected through an open competitive bidding process will deploy workers from early February to inject trunk injections into pine trees near highway interchanges.
The "Pine Wilt Disease Damaged Tree Felling Project" involves removing approximately 15,000 pine trees throughout Gijang-gun. The construction bidding is currently underway, and work is expected to begin in mid-February.
Additionally, the county plans to enhance residents' awareness of forest pests and diseases through continuous public relations efforts while promoting various projects such as the removal of damaged trees using the Forest Pest Monitoring and Control Team and Mobile Inspection Team, as well as controlling the movement of pine tree species.
Jeong Jong-bok, Governor of Gijang-gun, stated, "We will continue to nurture the forests of Gijang-gun beautifully through sustained attention and response to pine wilt disease," adding, "We will spare no effort to provide active support so that all residents of Gijang-gun can enjoy a safe life in healthy forests."
