"This year marks the meaningful 30th anniversary of the National Jeongdong Theater. Therefore, we have put more thought into making this year's performances even richer."
Jeong Seongsuk, CEO of the National Jeongdong Theater, said this while announcing this year's performance plans at a press conference held at Jeongdong Theater on the 4th.
This year, Jeongdong Theater will present a total of 21 works under the theme "30th Jeongdong Spectrum, Evolving Theater," performing a total of 444 shows at Jeongdong Theater and Jeongdong Theater Cecil.

Two original premiere works will be showcased. They are the traditional dance "Dansim," based on the traditional folktale "Simcheong," and the traditional music play "Seopyeonje: The Original."
"Dansim" is a work where director Jeong Guho, well known for the dance "Ilmu," and choreographer Jeong Hyejin reunite. It will focus on Simcheong's psychological conflicts and present a new interpretation. "Dansim" is produced as part of the "K-Culture Series," a new performance brand launched last year by the National Jeongdong Theater's own arts troupe, and is scheduled to be performed in May.
The traditional music play "Seopyeonje: The Original" is adapted and directed by Go Seonung, director of the Seoul City Theater Company, with composer Han Seungseok in charge of composition and music. The two previously collaborated on the popular repertoire of the National Changgeuk Company, "Byeonggangsoe Jeomjjigo Ongnyeo." "Seopyeonje: The Original" is scheduled for performance in October.
CEO Jeong Seongsuk expressed expectations, saying, "The K-Culture Series, traditional performances embodying Korean culture, will expand Jeongdong Theater's spectrum toward the world." Regarding Seopyeonje, she introduced it as "a work that has been prepared for a long time since my inauguration in November 2022, in line with the 30th anniversary of the theater's opening."
