"Martial Law Is an Act of Destroying Constitutional Order"

View original imageOn that day, Song Doo-hwan, co-representative of the National Assembly's legal team, said, "We cannot help but be deeply concerned about the phenomenon of making baseless claims that do not align at all with objective evidence or circumstances, deviating from the essence and core of the impeachment trial, and recklessly making statements that provoke and mislead some supporters."
He added, "The respondent side repeatedly requests re-verification of the votes from the 21st and 22nd general elections, claiming that the need to inspect the election commission's system is the reason for declaring martial law," and pointed out, "This is clearly an attempt to revisit cases that the Supreme Court has already concluded and finalized through rulings in related election lawsuits, and it cannot be a reason to mobilize troops."

Kim Yi-su, another lawyer from the National Assembly's legal team, also emphasized the illegality of declaring martial law. Lawyer Kim stated, "Like a dictator, they recklessly declared a 'national emergency' and mobilized armed military and police forces," stressing, "This is an act of destroying the constitutional order by attempting to eliminate the existence of the opposition party and the very function of the National Assembly through the extreme measure of martial law."
