'Notification of Provision of User Information by Prosecutors'... Lee Jae-myung "There is no end"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 2nd that he received a notification from the prosecution regarding the provision of telecommunications user information.
On the same day, Lee posted on Facebook a text message he received from the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office notifying him of the provision of telecommunications user information.
The text message indicated that the recipient of the telecommunications user information was the Public Investigation Division of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, and the date of information provision was July 3, 2023.
The Public Investigation Division of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office is the unit that investigated the allegations of misuse of the Gyeonggi Province corporate card by Lee and his spouse.
Along with the text message, Lee left a brief comment saying, "There is no end."
In response, the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office stated, "The Public Investigation Division, while investigating the case of budget misuse in Gyeonggi Province involving Representative Lee, requested subscription information from the telecommunications company on July 3, 2024, to verify his mobile phone number for a summons, and sent the first summons on July 4."
They added, "This is a lawful procedure under the Criminal Procedure Act," and explained, "Representative Lee has not responded to any summons or written investigation related to this case."
Lee had also revealed in August last year that he was notified by the prosecution about the provision of telecommunications user information during the investigation of the 'presidential election interference and public opinion manipulation' case.
When it became known that the prosecution had accessed telecommunications data of numerous opposition politicians and journalists at that time, the Democratic Party criticized it as "omnidirectional surveillance," while the prosecution stated that they had obtained telecommunications warrants to check call records of suspects or key witnesses.
