The Jeollanam-do City/County Basic Allowance for Newborns was introduced by Jeollanam-do as a leading policy and turning point for low birthrate measures, designating 2024 as the first year to overcome the crisis of local extinction.
The allowance is available to babies born in 2024 or later. If the birth is registered in Jeollanam-do and both the guardian (parents) and the child continue to reside in Jeollanam-do, they can receive up to 200,000 KRW per month, combining the Jeollanam-do allowance and the city/county allowance.
The Jeollanam-do allowance of 100,000 KRW (in cash) is provided equally in all cities and counties. The city/county allowance, up to 100,000 KRW, is provided either in cash or local currency, depending on the region.
Support is available from the month the child turns one year old (12 months after birth), and payments start from the month of application. Retroactive payments are not allowed.
Applications can be submitted online via Government24 (Subsidy24) or at the local administrative welfare center in the area of residence, starting 30 days before the child’s first birthday.
For babies born in 2025 to be eligible for payment in 2026, both parents and the child must continue to reside in Jeollanam-do from the time of birth registration. It is important to check these eligibility requirements before applying.
With the implementation of the Jeollanam-do City/County Basic Allowance for Newborns, families with children born in Jeollanam-do from 2024 onwards can receive support of 43.2 million KRW for the first child, 86.4 million KRW for the second child, and 129.6 million KRW for the third child, provided they continue to reside in Jeollanam-do until the child reaches adulthood.
