Discussing the Korea-U.S. Alliance and Security on the Korean Peninsula
Kim Dae-sik, a member of the People Power Party representing Sasang District in Busan, who is in the United States to attend President Trump's inauguration, met consecutively with members of the U.S. Congress and other political figures to discuss bilateral issues including security on the Korean Peninsula.
On the 22nd, Kim Dae-sik informed that he met with Senator Ted Cruz in Washington D.C. to discuss the Korea-U.S. alliance and the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.
He also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and strengthening Korea-U.S. friendly relations with New Jersey Senator Andy Kim and Virginia Representative Jennifer Kiggans, respectively.
On the 22nd, through Facebook, Kim emphasized during his meeting with Senator Ted Cruz that “the core of the Korea-U.S. alliance is the security issue of the Korean Peninsula, which is not only a matter for the Republic of Korea but also an important issue for U.S. security.”
He also stated, “The Republic of Korea absolutely cannot tolerate North Korea’s possession of nuclear weapons, and I hope President Trump deeply understands this issue and responds together.” In response, Senator Ted Cruz emphasized that “the Korea-U.S. alliance is an essential pillar supporting security and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region” and agreed on the importance of cooperation.
Senator Ted Cruz is a Republican politician representing the state of Texas and has previously run as a presidential candidate. He maintains a close cooperative relationship with President Trump and plays an important role within the United States.
Afterwards, Kim met with Senator Andy Kim and Representative Jennifer Kiggans. Senator Andy Kim, who served as a Middle East advisor at the White House National Security Council (NSC), has built diplomatic expertise and shared the importance of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
Representative Jennifer Kiggans, a former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot with expertise in military and security fields, expressed that “the Korea-U.S. alliance is a crucial pillar for peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region,” emphasizing the importance of Korea-U.S. cooperation.
Kim said, “The Korea-U.S. alliance is a solid foundation for the security of the Republic of Korea and the joint prosperity of both countries,” discussing the ongoing threats from North Korea. He added, “I will strive to ensure peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula so that the people of the Republic of Korea can feel secure and that it contributes to freedom and prosperity worldwide.”
During the meetings with members of both the Senate and the House, there was consensus that the Korea-U.S. alliance is a key foundation illuminating the future of both countries across economy, diplomacy, and security, and a determination was made to further strengthen cooperation between Korea and the U.S.
