View original imageJeollanam-do is implementing strengthened quarantine measures for the Lunar New Year holiday, as the increase in the movement of people and vehicles raises concerns about the spread and introduction of livestock infectious diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) and African swine fever.
The province will conduct simultaneous disinfection of all livestock farms, slaughterhouses, and related facilities on the 24th and 31st, before and after the holiday. For small-scale farms, 99 joint quarantine teams from the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and 31 leased disinfection vehicles will be fully mobilized to provide disinfection support even during the holiday period.
Jeollanam-do will also organize its own inspection teams to check quarantine practices at poultry farms near migratory bird habitats and at those belonging to the same group as the duck farm in Damyang, where highly pathogenic avian influenza recently occurred.
Additionally, the province will intensify public awareness efforts by sending quarantine guideline text messages, broadcasting announcements in villages, putting up banners at village entrances, and posting quarantine guidelines on city and county websites.
To ensure a swift response to reports of suspected disease in livestock, Jeollanam-do and all cities and counties will operate situation rooms and maintain a 24-hour emergency response system throughout the Lunar New Year holiday.
Meanwhile, as of January, there have been 27 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza reported in 10 cities and provinces nationwide. In Jeollanam-do, there have been a total of three cases reported in Yeongam, Gangjin, and Damyang.
