Chief Warrant Officer Jo Young-seop of the Navy Submarine Command Receives LG Hero Award for Good Deeds
Recognized for Over 200 Blood Donations, Community Service, and Contributions to Scholarship and Social Welfare Organizations
Master Sergeant Jo Young-seop (male, 45 years old) of the Naval Submarine Command received the LG Hero Award in the 'Good Deeds Category' presented by the LG Welfare Foundation on the 21st.
Master Sergeant Jo was commissioned in September 1998 as the 174th candidate for naval non-commissioned officers. While fulfilling his primary duty of protecting the nation's maritime interests, he continuously performed good deeds such as blood donations and volunteer activities, leading to his selection as the LG Hero Award recipient in the 'Good Deeds Category.'
Since high school, Master Sergeant Jo has recorded over 200 blood donations spanning approximately 28 years, and he donated blood donation certificates more than 110 times to the Korean Red Cross. The blood donation certificates were donated to the families of colleagues undergoing treatment and to Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital to support blood transfusions for vulnerable groups. He also participated in regular blood donation campaigns for over 400 hours.
Additionally, he is registered as a volunteer in Changwon City and has participated in over 260 volunteer activities totaling more than 1,000 hours, including meal service at social welfare centers, kimchi-making volunteer work, and briquette delivery, utilizing weekends and holidays. He also donates a fixed amount monthly to organizations such as the Love Organ Donation Movement Headquarters, the Sea Love Navy Scholarship Foundation, and local social welfare facilities.
In recognition of these contributions, Master Sergeant Jo has received honors such as the Red Cross Blood Donation Merit Medal Honorary Commander, a commendation from the Mayor of Changwon on World Blood Donor Day, a volunteer merit commendation from the Director of the Korean Red Cross Gyeongnam Blood Center, and a commendation from the Director of the Changwon City Comprehensive Volunteer Center.

After receiving the LG Hero Award, Master Sergeant Jo stated, “I believe my small good deeds can be a great strength in someone’s life,” and added, “As a soldier protecting the nation and its people, I will continue to do my best not only in my military duties but also in spreading warmth to the local community.”
