Tourism Organization's 'K-Tourism Roadshow' in 20 Major Overseas Cities This Year
The Korea Tourism Organization will hold the 'K-Tourism Roadshow' in 20 major overseas cities this year and strengthen projects linked to K-pop. It will also collaborate with other government departments to develop various tourism products and work to revitalize domestic travel.
On the 21st, the Tourism Organization announced its '8 Core Projects' containing these plans. The 8 core projects are ▲ aggressive Korean tourism marketing ▲ expansion of the tourism ecosystem through convergence of different industries ▲ overseas territorial expansion through K-content ▲ strengthening one-stop incubating functions for overseas advancement ▲ revitalization of regional tourism ▲ improvement of tourism contact services ▲ leading open innovation ▲ building a better life through tourism.
The Tourism Organization will carry out aggressive inbound marketing to quickly reverse the subdued sentiment toward visiting Korea at the beginning of the year.
They will hold the 'K-Tourism Roadshow' in 20 major overseas cities including New York, Beijing, and Tokyo to promote inbound tourism. Additionally, they will accelerate the development of new markets by establishing 'promotion offices' in 12 cities with high growth potential.
Projects linked to K-pop will also be strengthened. The Hallyu promotion, which previously focused only on K-pop concerts, will be expanded, and specialized K-sports products such as e-sports and Taekwondo will be developed.
To revitalize domestic tourism, a 'Travel Month' campaign will be conducted to provide benefits to 1.5 million citizens. The operation of the 'Digital Tourist ID' will be expanded to 45 regions, and regional stay-type tourism will be promoted through activating workations, developing nighttime tourism programs, and distributing 1 million regional accommodation discount coupons.
Convenience for foreign tourists will also be enhanced by improving transportation and shopping service quality, such as activating taxi-hailing apps exclusively for foreigners, expanding affiliated stores for easy payment, and increasing immediate refund stores.
The Tourism Organization will also strengthen the testbed function for private companies' technologies and services and conduct pilot projects for tourism products reflecting regional strengths.
Fifteen regional tourism promotion organizations (DMOs) will be selected, and a new 'regional DMO' connecting basic local governments will be introduced.
For vulnerable groups in tourism such as people with disabilities, 20 new 'Open Tourism Sites' will be created. Tourism and experience content that these vulnerable groups can enjoy will be expanded, and tourism acceptance systems will be strengthened through tourism guidance considering different types of disabilities.
