Namwon City to Conduct Special Inspection for Winter Disaster Preparedness Until the 24th
Targeting 30 Greenhouse Facilities...
Checking Operation of Heating Devices and More
Namwon City in North Jeolla Province will conduct a special inspection and on-site guidance for winter disaster preparedness until the 24th.
According to the city on the 20th, this inspection was initiated to prevent potential damage to crops and agricultural facilities due to the recent rapid drop in temperature and heavy snowfall.
The city will inspect about 30 greenhouse facilities, checking for the availability of snow removal equipment, the condition of drainage systems, and the operation of heating devices.
Guidelines for farmers on how to respond to heavy snow and cold waves, as well as instructions for managing crops and facilities, will also be disseminated as preemptive measures to prevent damage.
Additionally, for 535 farming households and 102 hectares of facility horticulture farms, weather forecasts are being regularly communicated, text messages are sent, and village broadcasts are made through township administrative welfare centers and farmer counseling centers to actively manage and guide farmers so that there is no damage from sudden heavy snow or cold waves.
Management guidelines for agricultural facilities in preparation for heavy snow and cold waves include: installing support pillars for non-standard or aging facilities, maintaining drainage systems, securing snow removal equipment, checking the proper operation of heating devices, tearing plastic film if collapse is likely, and removing thermal covers and shade nets. In particular, in the case of Namwon, if more than 30 cm of snow is expected, plastic film should be torn in advance to prevent the collapse of greenhouses.
Kim Yeonju, head of the Namwon Agricultural Technology Center, said, "By conducting special inspections for winter disaster preparedness, we hope to raise awareness among farmers so they can prevent disasters themselves and use this as an opportunity to prepare. We strongly urge farmers to thoroughly manage their crops and agricultural facilities."
