View original imageThe Jeonnam Regional Labor Relations Commission (Jinowi) has recently dismissed all applications for relief from unfair labor practices filed by the Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) branch of the Metal Workers’ Union, which recently entered into industrial action.
According to GGM on the 19th, Jinowi recently resolved to dismiss all six applications for relief from unfair labor practices filed by the union against the company.
The unfair labor practices claimed by the GGM branch included "the company's request to refrain from excessive in-house rallies" and "the removal of banners," among others.
The company is analyzed to have determined that its request for restraint to the union holding rallies inside the company was not illegal.
The GGM branch, which began full-scale activities after joining the Metal Workers’ Union in May last year, has been continuing a partial strike due to the breakdown of wage and collective bargaining negotiations with management.
The union has demanded a basic wage increase of 159,200 won, equivalent to 7% of the monthly salary, among other things, but the company maintains its stance that it cannot offer any further increase, as it has already applied this year’s inflation rate of 3.6% as decided by the labor-management council, resulting in ongoing conflict.
A GGM official said, "This decision is expected to serve as an opportunity to dispel the union’s unilateral claim that the company is unfairly interfering with union activities."
