"Domestic Fund Net Assets 1,099 Trillion Won Last Year... 13% Increase Compared to Previous Year"
The total net assets of domestic funds have been estimated to reach 1,100 trillion won.
According to the '2024 Fund Market Settlement' by the Korea Financial Investment Association on the 17th, the total net assets of all funds as of the end of last year amounted to 1,098.7 trillion won, an increase of 127.3 trillion won (13.1%) compared to the previous year.
The total net assets of all funds surpassed 1,000 trillion won in the first quarter of last year and continued steady growth throughout the year. Except for money market funds (MMF), which saw a decrease of 10.4 trillion won due to fund outflows and inflows, all other types experienced net inflows. The entire fund market saw a net inflow of 91.9 trillion won.
Among all fund types, including public and private funds, bond funds recorded the largest increase in net assets compared to the end of 2023. The net assets of bond funds reached 172.6 trillion won, up 34.4 trillion won (24.9%) from the previous year-end. In terms of fund flows, bond funds also had the highest net inflow of 27.2 trillion won over the year.
Following bond funds, equity funds centered on exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw an increase in net assets of 23.1 trillion won, marking the second-largest growth. Next were fund of funds (17.4 trillion won) and derivative funds (14.5 trillion won) in terms of net asset growth. Based on fund flows, real estate (13.6 trillion won) and mixed assets (11.9 trillion won) followed with net inflows.
By region, overseas investment funds showed remarkable growth in net assets. The total net assets of domestic investment funds and overseas investment funds were 697.3 trillion won and 401.4 trillion won, respectively, increasing by 52.6 trillion won (8.2%) and 74.6 trillion won (22.8%) compared to the end of 2023.
Among public and private funds, the ETF market growth led to a 25.1% increase in net assets of public funds. However, private fund net assets grew by only 6.4%. Public funds showed the highest growth rate in the past five years, with notable increases in bond funds and overseas equity ETFs.

The proportion of overseas equity ETFs within equity ETFs rose from 28.8% at the end of 2023 to 53.2% at the end of last year. ETFs recorded net assets of 177.5 trillion won at the end of last year, a 46.6% increase from the previous year. Excluding ETFs, public funds saw a 5.2 trillion won decrease in equity fund net assets, resulting in a modest 13.6% growth compared to the previous year.
