10 Drivers Transporting Elderly Voters in Incheon Ganghwa County By-election Referred to Prosecution
Last year, 10 drivers who gave rides to acquaintances, who were voters, to polling stations during the Incheon Ganghwa County mayoral by-election were referred to the prosecution.
On the 17th, the Incheon Ganghwa Police Station announced that it had sent 10 people, including a man in his 60s identified as A, to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
A and others are suspected of giving rides to acquaintances to polling stations within Ganghwa County on the day of the main and early voting for the Ganghwa County mayoral by-election last October. Investigations revealed that most of them drove at least two or more people directly to the polling stations.
After investigating 16 reports of "transporting elderly voters," the police judged that charges were justified in 10 cases. For the remaining six cases, the police decided not to prosecute after confirming family or kinship relationships between the drivers and passengers.
