Hopes for Hostage Release and Improved Humanitarian Situation in the Gaza Strip
The government has expressed a welcoming stance on the sudden agreement of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a spokesperson's statement on the 16th, "We welcome the conclusion of the ceasefire and hostage release negotiations in the Gaza Strip," and "We highly appreciate the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, who played a significant role."
It added, "The government hopes that all hostages will be released and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip will improve through thorough and swift implementation of the agreement," and emphasized, "Based on the positive momentum created by this agreement, we hope that discussions on diplomatic solutions for peace and stability in the region will be fully initiated."
Furthermore, it added, "As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the government will continue to participate in the international community's efforts to restore and promote peace in the Middle East."

According to the mediator Qatar and Hamas, both sides have agreed to a three-stage ceasefire, which involves stopping hostilities for 42 days, exchanging hostages and detainees, and then discussing a permanent ceasefire, foreign media reported. This comes 15 months after Hamas's surprise attack on Israel in October 2023.
