Damyang County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Byungno) held its first shipment ceremony of the year for strawberry exports (256kg) to Vietnam at the Bongsan Nonghyup Agricultural Distribution Center on the 16th.
The county has completed the designation of an export quarantine zone to expand strawberry exports and plans to export once a week to six countries (Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, and Canada) until April.
Although Damyang strawberries are highly popular in the domestic market, making it difficult to secure export volumes, the county has exported about 100 tons worldwide to countries such as Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, and the United States since 2018.
Additionally, last December, Damyang signed a business agreement with Angier in France and has been exporting strawberry seedlings to France, Kenya, Indonesia, and other countries, receiving royalties.
Governor Lee Byungno stated, "Riding the global Korean Wave, we will actively support overseas exports to lead the globalization of Damyang strawberries."
Meanwhile, the wholesale price of the 'Jukhyang' strawberry variety, developed by Damyang County?one of the nation's top three strawberry-producing regions?reached a record high of 38,363 KRW per kg (premium grade, as of the 14th) at Garak Market.
