The Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Master’s Program (IACS-NCCU) at National Chengchi University in Taiwan is a degree program jointly operated with four Taiwanese universities (National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Central University). It was established to conduct cultural studies on Asian cultures in a global context and to cultivate specialists in the field.

This MOU was made to strengthen cooperation in Asian cultural studies based on gender and affect, and to promote exchanges of researchers and graduate students as well as the development of educational curricula.

Prior to signing the MOU, the two institutions held a joint academic conference titled “Gender·Affect Workshop” in Taiwan in December 2023, and alongside the MOU signing, they conducted a joint academic conference titled “Geopolitical Intimacy and Counter-Affect in East Asia.”

Through academic exchanges over the past two years, the two institutions presented their respective research achievements on media and culture, gender, and social movements, and discussed common agendas.

Based on this MOU, the two institutions plan to continue student exchanges, invited lectures by researchers, and joint academic conferences over the next three years.

A representative of the Gender·Affect Research Institute at Dong-A University stated, “We hope that this MOU signing will promote exchanges between students and researchers in Korea and Taiwan and expand understanding of Asian culture as a whole beyond the countries to which each belongs.”

The Gender·Affect Research Institute at Dong-A University combines research methods of affect and gender to attempt a paradigm shift in the humanities regarding subjects such as the self and body, life and death, illness, disability, minorities, and posthumanism, and explores and researches social and cultural agendas surrounding ‘connection’ and ‘dependency.’
