The delegation toured Korea's secondary battery circular economy sites and, to create concrete cooperation models with Korean companies, formed an economic delegation of about 40 members, including representatives from 12 related companies, the Canadian Embassy in Korea, Global Affairs Canada, and the National Research Council, arriving in Korea on the 13th.
On the 15th, as the first schedule of their visit to Pohang, the delegation visited the Secondary Battery Integrated Management Center in the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex to inspect the used battery evaluation and storage system, and toured the electric vehicle battery resource circulation cluster project site scheduled for completion in June.
Next, they visited PM Grow, a battery reuse specialist company, to observe the battery circular economy business sites covering battery pack development, battery subscription services, battery diagnosis and certification, and reuse, discussing technological cooperation between companies.
In particular, they attended the Pohang City-Canada Business Networking Meeting held in the large conference room of Pohang City Hall, where they held discussions on business cooperation between secondary battery companies of both countries and the joint promotion of new technology demonstration projects.
The meeting was attended by Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok and Canadian Ambassador to Korea Tamara Mohyani, along with executives and employees from seven local secondary battery companies including POSCO Future M, POSCO Holdings, Nature & Technology, Endive, TwoN, BS One, and CTA, discussing business cooperation plans with Canadian companies.
The companies attending the meeting sought practical technological cooperation, overseas expansion, and the possibility of promoting demonstration projects by identifying companies in areas of interest such as battery recycling and reuse, energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicle charging, and battery resource circulation technology consulting.
Canadian Ambassador to Korea Tamara Mohyani emphasized, “Canada regards the Republic of Korea as a long-standing economic and international partner in its Indo-Pacific Strategy,” adding, “We actively support eco-friendly technology demonstration projects and have come to Pohang with this delegation to ensure these efforts lead to actual business.”
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “This visit provided an opportunity to strengthen business cooperation with Canada, with whom we have maintained a long-standing friendly relationship, in the fiercely competitive global secondary battery market,” and added, “By combining Pohang’s technological capabilities with Canada’s resources, we will create a model that leads innovative industries in local regions through mutual cooperation.”
