Minju: "Special Investigation Law on Insurrection, According to Established Procedures"
The Democratic Party of Korea reaffirmed on the 12th its intention to have the 'Special Investigation Act on Treason,' which includes a provision for a third party to recommend special prosecutor candidates, passed in the plenary session of the National Assembly by the 16th at the latest.
Cho Seung-rae, the chief spokesperson, told reporters at the National Assembly on the same day, "The date for the plenary session will be negotiated between the ruling and opposition parties, and if negotiations fail, it will be scheduled in coordination with the Speaker of the National Assembly."
The Democratic Party had previously announced that after the full meeting of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 13th, the Special Investigation Act on Treason would be approved in the plenary session on either the 14th or the 16th.
Regarding various negotiation proposals within the ruling party related to the Special Investigation Act, such as the 'exclusion of foreign exchange crimes,' Cho said, "The remarks coming from the ruling party are not official party positions that have gone through formal discussions, and they are not responsible proposals. There is no reason to respond to each of those."
He added, "Discussions should be held with a comprehensive revised bill, and there is no need to respond to tentative remarks made without proper organization."
Cho emphasized, "Of course, the Democratic Party will proceed according to the established process," and pressured, "I hope the People Power Party also clearly organizes its position and opinions before the plenary session."

He stated, "The special investigation must be strict, and political neutrality and objectivity are the most important. If it is a special investigation to cover up or conceal, as some say, it cannot be accepted," adding that dialogue would be possible only if the ruling party brings a sincere negotiation proposal.
