Kwon Seongdong: "Democratic Party Obsessed with Speedy Arrest of Yoon... Calculating to Gain Advantage in Impeachment Proceedings"
Critical Message on Facebook
"Acting as a Dokjeondae Behind Public Authorities Like the CIO and Police"
Kwon Seongdong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "They are acting as a督戰隊 (dokjeondae, a unit that monitors and encourages combat) behind the power of public authorities such as the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and the police, and are solely obsessed with the speed of the arrest operation."

He continued, "The reason the Democratic Party is so focused on speed is simple: they are calculating that arresting the president as soon as possible will create favorable circumstances for impeachment proceedings."
He added, "If, in the process of executing the arrest warrant, there is even the slightest chance of a violent clash, the Democratic Party will bear significant responsibility. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and the police, who have conducted investigations in an overreaching manner, are also responsible." He further stated, "The Democratic Party has even mentioned the 'execution' of the president. Do they wish to emulate Robespierre's Reign of Terror during the French Revolution?"
Floor Leader Kwon warned, "If the Democratic Party follows the path of the Jacobins (the radical faction of the French Revolution), and judicial institutions act as revolutionary tribunals, the Republic of Korea will be swept into uncontrollable chaos."
He also criticized Kim Jeongwon, Secretary General of the Constitutional Court, who, during an emergency interpellation at the National Assembly the previous day, responded that the proclamation of martial law "does not conform to the current Constitution," calling it "a serious breach of impartiality."

Kwon stated, "The Constitutional Court has a duty to mediate and resolve the current conflict. It must adhere to fair procedures more than ever." He pointed out, "Yet the Secretary General, whose role is only to manage the administrative affairs of the court, is appearing before the National Assembly to discuss whether martial law violates the Constitution." He concluded, "The president, both ruling and opposition parties, and the judiciary must all solemnly recall the principle of due process. Any outcome produced by procedural flaws will only mark the beginning of great chaos."
