Professor Ha Chang-sik of Pusan National University Understands Convergent Visual Artworks... Essay Published: 'Engineer Talks About the Convergence of Art'
Literature, Art, Film, and Music Works Addressed from a Convergent Perspective
Book Talk on the Afternoon of the 10th at Busan National University Art Center Exhibition
Chang-Sik Ha, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Pusan National University (President Jae-Won Choi), has published an essay collection titled Engineer Talks About the Fusion of Arts, which weaves together literary works, visual arts, films, and music from a convergent perspective.
Professor Ha is widely known as an "essay-writing engineer," having published a broad range of works including scientific books such as English texts on organic and inorganic materials and translated works introducing the history of molecular science, as well as prose and essay collections covering diverse fields like literature, music, and religion.
This new book follows six months after the release of his July last year essay collection Engineer Falls for Beethoven, which focused on the life and music of Beethoven.
Engineer Talks About the Fusion of Arts is a book in which the author, who has worked as both an essayist and an engineer, compiles essays on various topics related to the fusion of arts, centered on literature he read as a hobby, paintings and films he watched, and music he listened to.
Throughout the book, the author addresses the fusion of science and arts, literature and music, visual arts and music, film and music, as well as the convergence of literature, visual arts, and music, with a focus on music. As a book dealing with arts from a convergent perspective, it contains fascinating stories about literary works related to music and visual arts, paintings, films, and music.
Including over 70 pieces of classical and film music, more than 150 illustrations, and around 300 portraits and photographs of figures, the book is expected to help readers understand the world of arts from a convergent viewpoint.
Professor Ha said, "This book is a collection of writings created 'as the pen flows,' reflecting on artworks seen, heard, felt, and thought about from an engineer’s perspective with a convergent view." He added, "While there are experts who provide commentary in each art field, such as music columnists, docents, and literary and film critics, it is rare to introduce arts from a convergent perspective, which gave me the courage to write this book. I hope it can help readers acquire high-quality cultural knowledge of the arts through a convergent lens, even if just a little."
