Enhancing Yeoju Rice Competitiveness through Breed Development
Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 7th that it held the Yeoju Rice Variety Replacement Project Test Design Council on the 6th. The council was organized to share the 2024 achievements and to accelerate successful variety development through the 2025 test design, with 10 executives from the Yeoju Rural Leaders Association and the Yeoju Rice Research Association, along with related officials, in attendance.

View original imageThe Yeoju Rice Variety Replacement Project began with a business agreement among related organizations in 2023 and entered its third year of regional adaptation testing this year. It is expected that the development of representative varieties will become tangible by expanding the operation from 2 test sites in 2024 to 5 test plots in 2025.
Kim Young-shin, head of the Crop Research Team, stated, “We hope the 2025 test design proceeds smoothly with the active participation of farmers,” and added, “We will do our best to develop rice varieties that satisfy all consumers.”
Additionally, Jeon Chang-hyun, head of the Technology Extension Division, emphasized the importance of the project, saying, “We will devote all efforts to promoting the 2025 test design and developing representative Yeoju rice varieties.”
