Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, embarked on communication with the public at the grassroots level to welcome the New Year.
On the 3rd, he visited key project sites including ▲the designation of the Future Mobility Opportunity Development Zone ▲the creation of the Ungdong Complex Tourism and Leisure Complex ▲the restoration site of the collapsed retaining wall in Sanho-dong, establishing the direction for city administration in 2025 while reaffirming his commitment to citizen safety and economic revitalization.

On this day, Mayor Hong inspected the progress of the hydrogen-based Future Mobility Opportunity Development Zone in the Changwon National Industrial Complex area. Designated on December 27, this zone aims to revitalize Changwon’s hydrogen industry, with 16 companies investing a total of 694.8 billion KRW and targeting the creation of 982 new jobs. Additionally, it is expected to directly employ over 7,000 people and generate a production inducement effect worth 1.4 trillion KRW, which is anticipated to have a significant ripple effect on Changwon’s economy.
Mayor Hong stated, “Through the designation of this zone, Changwon has laid the foundation to leap forward as a global hydrogen mobility hub,” and emphasized, “We will establish ourselves as a center of industrial innovation by improving residential conditions and supporting corporate investment.”
◆ Promotion of Marine Leisure Tourism Project at Jinhae Marine Park
Mayor Hong also visited Jinhae Marine Park to discuss the direction of the marine leisure tourism project. Changwon City plans to invest 43 billion KRW from 2024 to 2028 to build year-round marine leisure facilities and tourism infrastructure.
Marine leisure facilities such as the ‘Bada Blossom Center’ and ‘Victory Skywalk’ are scheduled to be constructed, along with various specialized programs linked to Myeongdong Marina Port and nearby fishing villages.
Mayor Hong said, “We will strive to integrate Jinhae New Port and the marine leisure tourism industry to generate tourism revenue and revitalize the local economy.”

He also paid attention to livelihood sites directly connected to citizens’ lives. Mayor Hong visited Whiteville in Sanho-dong, Masanhappo-gu, to inspect the restoration site of the retaining wall that collapsed due to recent extreme heavy rains, and visited Sangnam Market to encourage merchants struggling with the recent domestic economic downturn. He listened to the voices of merchants and shared a meal with public officials to promote consumption in traditional markets, paying close attention to the voices on the ground.
Regarding the direction of city administration this year, Mayor Hong expressed his determination for 2025, saying, “We will visualize innovative growth in preparation for the next 50 years and enhance Changwon’s urban dignity through the activation of marine leisure projects,” and added, “We will focus on livelihood administration directly connected to citizens’ lives to produce tangible results that Changwon citizens can feel.”
