Police Investigate History of Mental Illness and Other Factors
A man in his 40s who fled after causing a hit-and-run accident and then rammed several police cars was arrested after a chase.
On the 2nd, Nowon Police Station announced that they arrested a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, on the spot on charges including ramming four police cars following a hit-and-run accident, and he is currently under investigation.
Mr. A is suspected of causing an accident by hitting another vehicle around 5:10 a.m. in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, and then fleeing the scene. During the escape, he rammed four police cars that had arrived at the scene, injuring four police officers inside the vehicles with bruises and other minor injuries (charges include special obstruction of official duties causing injury, etc.).

Mr. A continued to flee but was finally caught by the police around 5:50 a.m., about 40 minutes after the accident, in Byeollae-dong, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province. Investigations revealed that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police plan to investigate the specific circumstances of the accident, including checking Mr. A’s history of mental illness.
