Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi... Choose between Dongjakgwan and Eunpyeonggwan
Applications accepted until the 16th of next month, results announced on February 4
Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province are jointly recruiting new residents for Namdo Hakshuk in Seoul for next year.
According to the Namdo Scholarship Foundation (Chairman: Kang Gijung, Mayor of Gwangju; Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam) on the 30th, 725 new residents will be selected from January 2 to 16 next year.
By region, 362 will be selected from Gwangju and 361 from Jeonnam. Two students with disabilities will be selected regardless of region. By dormitory, 423 will be admitted to the 1st Namdo Hakshuk Dongjak Hall (located in Dongjak-gu), and 302 to the 2nd Namdo Hakshuk Eunpyeong Hall (located in Eunpyeong-gu). Applicants can choose their preferred location.
Eligibility requires that as of the announcement date (December 30), the guardian's resident registration is in Gwangju or Jeonnam, and the applicant must be a new or current student at a university or institution in Seoul, Incheon, or Gyeonggi next year. New students must submit one of the following: an exam slip with the university name, an acceptance certificate, or a tuition receipt.
Applications can be submitted through the Namdo Hakshuk application website during the recruitment period, or by mail to Gwangju City or Jeonnam city/county offices according to the guardian's resident registration address.
For new students, 100% of the selection is based on living standards according to the median income criteria set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. For current students, academic performance accounts for 30% and living standards for 70%.
Additional points are given to socially disadvantaged applicants, families with two or more children, and persons of national merit. Starting this year, under city/province ordinances, the additional points for multi-child families have been expanded to include families with two children (3 points for two children, 5 points for three or more children).
The list of admitted and waitlisted students will be announced on the Namdo Hakshuk website on February 4 next year. If there are vacancies, waitlisted students will be admitted in order. Selected students can use the dormitory from March next year at an entrance fee of 100,000 KRW and a monthly fee of 160,000 KRW.
Meanwhile, Namdo Hakshuk is jointly operated by the city and province to provide a stable residential environment for local university students attending universities in the Seoul metropolitan area and to reduce the financial burden on parents. Currently, 1,454 university students (850 in Dongjak Hall, 604 in Eunpyeong Hall) are residing there.
