When declared a special disaster area, administrative and financial support necessary for disaster relief and recovery is provided, and 50% of the damage recovery costs are covered by the national government, reducing the financial burden on local governments. This is the third time a special disaster area has been declared for social disasters excluding wildfires since the 2020s, following COVID-19 and the Itaewon tragedy.
