Jangheung County Selected for 'Gwanseon-eup Oktang District New Village Project' Contest
Securing 25 Billion Won in Project Funds... Five-Year Project Begins Next Year
Modernizing Living Infrastructure, Providing Safe and Convenient Residential Environment
Jangheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Sung) has secured a total project budget of 25 billion KRW as the 'Gwanseon-eup Oktang District New Village Project' was finally selected in the New Village public contest hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to the county on the 26th, the New Village Project is a newly introduced public contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, targeting old low-rise residential areas where full-scale redevelopment or reconstruction is difficult. The public sector will provide infrastructure and amenities at the level of apartment complexes, such as parking lots and safety facilities, while the private sector will be given financial and institutional incentives to voluntarily improve housing, thereby supplying non-apartment housing. The project will be implemented over five years from next year to 2029, covering three sectors and seven unit projects.

Following the government's guidelines for the New Village Project announced in the first half of 2024, the county determined that the Oktang District of Gwanseon-eup was the optimal site for the New Village public contest and shifted the direction of its application accordingly.
Accordingly, the project plan was revised and supplemented through expert consulting and communication with residents. To provide a residential environment that meets the needs of residents, a comprehensive analysis of conditions, resident surveys, and public hearings were conducted for the Oktang District of Gwanseon-eup. As a result, a New Village project plan worth 25 billion KRW was established and, after on-site inspections and presentation evaluations by the evaluation team, the project was finally selected for the public contest.
Governor Kim Sung frequently visited the National Assembly during the selection process to emphasize the necessity and importance of the Gwanseon-eup Oktang District New Village Project and to convey the strong will of the residents.
In particular, National Assemblyman Moon Geumjoo, who represents the local district, along with lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties, agreed on the necessity and validity of the project and promised support at the parliamentary level.
Governor Kim Sung stated, "We were able to be selected for the contest thanks to the active participation and cooperation of local residents," and added, "Through the New Village Project, we will improve the quality of life for Gwanseon-eup residents, modernize old housing and living infrastructure, and provide a safer and more convenient residential environment."
